We hold regular, laid-back, sessions led by our two tutors Tamsin Dearnley and Lucy Nolan, as well as occasional longer, more 'formal' workshops with guest tutors. Through a mix of online (zoom) and in-person teaching we offer access to 'all things harp' to our members across the Yorkshire area and beyond.
Our 'TPH Play-Togethers' and Zoom sessions in October, November and
December 2026, will be led by Tamsin Dearnley on Saturday mornings
(Zoom) and all day on Saturdays for in-person private lessons in the mornings
and group Play Togethers in the afternoons. Lucy will be on maternity leave
from September 2026 but we're looking forward to seeing her back with us in 2027.
Dates and times for the Autumn sessions
are on the list of UPCOMING EVENTS
Both Lucy and Tamsin are more than happy to give private lessons via video link - please contact them for more information and bookings.
We offer 'special' full-day workshops two or three times a year led by well-known harpists from across the country.
Our very popular annual TPH Festival (usually held in early November) is now in its seventh year. This is open to all and is a perfect opportunity for harp players to come together (virtually or in-person depending on the situation!) and learn about not only all things harp, but also to hear a wider range of speakers and tutors and to try some very different things - in the past we have had lectures on modes, workshops on silent film scores, finger-bending technique masterclasses and many more!
All Transpennine Group members receive regular updates of all upcoming events via email, and Clarsach Society members from other local branches are very welcome to attend any of these. You can get more information about joining any one of our zoom sessions by contacting Becki (tech-witch@outlook.com). For information about joining an in-person session please contact Jean (jeannie69b@gmail.com).
Not a Clarsach Society Member? - Click here for information about joining us.
Please note, the Special Interest Groups (Classical, Slow Strings and Advanced Technique) are all online sessions led by Lucy Nolan.
We have a sub-group for those interested in exploring classical music for the harp, led by Lucy Nolan. Lucy's classical training and immmense background knowledge of the pieces we study really help us to explore this type of music, giving us something very different from the perhaps more conventional Folk repertoire associated with the lever harp.
For those who just want to take things at a slower, more relaxed place, these sessions with Lucy will let you take your time with the music in a lovely, friendly atmosphere. All are welcome, but especially those who are new to the harp or who feel they need a bit more confidence-building!
This is for those who have got to grips with the basics of harp playing and now want to develop their skills and play more varied types of music. Lucy will introduce new techniques to help you develop and enhance your music.
Since the success of our last concerts at Bradford Indsutrial Museum, and Halifax, we are continuing our house group practices/informal play-togethers; these are held on a regular basis, usually at a member's house in Ilkley. If you'd like to join one of these, please email us (transpennineharps@gmail.com).
